Boston College Basketball Coach Luke Murray Accused of Firing Announcers
Boston College has dismissed its longtime men's basketball radio broadcasters, Kevin Collins and Josh Maurer, reportedly at the request of new head coach Luke Murray. The decision was communicated to the announcers in late July, leaving them little time to secure new positions ahead of the upcoming season.
Collins and Maurer had been calling BC basketball games for nine years. They learned that Murray preferred to eliminate any ties to the previous coaching staff, which he believed contributed to a losing mentality. Despite their attempts to meet with Murray, they were unsuccessful in establishing any connection.
While Murray has not publicly addressed the situation, Boston College's athletic director, Blake James, stated that the decision was made by the athletics administration in consultation with their media partner. The university has not yet announced replacements for the broadcasters.
