Braves Acquire Michael Grove from Rays

The Atlanta Braves announced on Tuesday that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Michael Grove off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays. Following the acquisition, Grove has been optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Grove, who will turn 30 in December, was originally a second-round draft pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018. Despite being a highly regarded prospect, he has struggled with injuries throughout his four seasons in the major leagues, including significant shoulder issues that required surgery in 2025.

During his time with the Rays, Grove pitched seven innings in the majors, allowing five runs, but he performed better in Triple-A, posting a 3.34 ERA over 35 innings. While he has shown potential with a solid strikeout rate, his susceptibility to home runs has been a concern. The Braves view him as bullpen depth for now, with the possibility of a starting role in the future.
