Braves Acquire Ricky Vanasco from Tigers
The Atlanta Braves have claimed right-handed pitcher Ricky Vanasco off waivers from the Detroit Tigers and have sent him to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Vanasco, who was designated for assignment by Detroit earlier this week after the team signed Tyler Kinley, has had a challenging stint in the majors this season, allowing 11 earned runs in 6 1/3 innings over five appearances. However, he has performed better in the minors, posting a 2.53 ERA over 46 1/3 innings in Triple-A.
Vanasco's move to Atlanta follows a series of transactions that included the recall of AJ Smith-Shawver and Kinley's subsequent release. With Vanasco being optionable, the Braves are looking to bolster their bullpen depth.
