Braves Decline to Include Didier Fuentes in Trade for Tarik Skubal
The Atlanta Braves sought to acquire pitcher Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers during the trade deadline but did not finalize a deal. Reports indicate that the Braves made many of their young players available, yet they chose not to include right-hander Didier Fuentes in the negotiations.
Fuentes, who was signed internationally in January 2022 and recently turned 21, has quickly become a key part of the Braves' future plans. His contract was selected for the active roster shortly after his 20th birthday, although he faced challenges in his initial MLB appearances, posting a 13.85 ERA in four starts before being sent back to Triple-A.
After recovering from an injury, Fuentes returned to the Braves' roster and significantly improved his performance, achieving a 2.45 ERA over 73 1/3 innings in the regular season. His postseason contributions included a strong outing against the Dodgers. Meanwhile, Skubal, who was traded to the Dodgers, has maintained his impressive form, raising questions about the potential impact on the Braves' season had they completed the trade.
