Braves Face Pitching Challenges as López Goes on Injured List

The Atlanta Braves have placed right-hander Reynaldo López on the 15-day injured list due to left knee inflammation, retroactive to July 30th. This decision comes after López was scratched from his scheduled start following discomfort experienced during warmups. The team has recalled JR Ritchie from Triple-A Gwinnett to take the mound against the Nationals today.

López's injury follows a stretch where he made six starts since late June, posting a 3.86 ERA over 28 innings. His absence leaves the Braves with a rotation that includes Bryce Elder, Martín Pérez, and Ritchie, while Chris Sale continues to perform well with a 2.08 ERA. The Braves may need to seek additional pitching help before the upcoming trade deadline.

In addition to the pitching concerns, infielder Ha-Seong Kim is expected to be activated soon after completing his rehab assignment. Kim has struggled this season, batting just .068 in 82 plate appearances before his injury. Jim Jarvis has filled in effectively during Kim's absence, leading the Braves to consider further options at shortstop as they approach the trade market.
