Braves Opt Not to Include Didier Fuentes in Trade for Tarik Skubal
The Atlanta Braves pursued a trade for pitcher Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers but ultimately did not reach an agreement. Reports indicate that despite making several young players available, the Braves were unwilling to include right-hander Didier Fuentes in the negotiations.
Fuentes, who was signed internationally in January 2022 and turned 21 in June, has quickly become a key figure in Atlanta's future. After a challenging start in the majors, where he posted a 13.85 ERA in four games, Fuentes improved significantly in the 2026 season, achieving a 2.45 ERA over 73 1/3 innings.
While Skubal was traded to the Dodgers, the Braves acquired Tyler Mahle instead. The decision to retain Fuentes suggests the Braves see him as a potential future starter, especially as they navigate their pitching roster for the upcoming seasons.
