Braves Promote Danny Young and Designate Luke Williams
The Atlanta Braves have promoted left-handed pitcher Danny Young from Triple-A Gwinnett, as reported by 680 The Fan. In a corresponding move, the team has designated infielder Luke Williams for assignment.
Danny Young, who was at risk of becoming a minor league free agent, will continue with the Braves after initially joining the team from the Mariners in August 2022. Over the 2023 season, he made nine appearances before being released, later spending two seasons with the Mets. Young had a career-high 37 2/3 innings pitched with a 4.54 ERA in his first year with the Mets but faced challenges in 2025 due to Tommy John surgery.
After recovering, Young rejoined the Braves on a split contract last December and made his season debut on July 3. He recorded a 2.08 ERA over 12 appearances but struggled in August, leading to his designation for assignment on August 16. Luke Williams, who has been with the Braves since 2023, played only two games in the 2026 regular season and did not participate in the postseason. He is expected to clear waivers and become a free agent.
