Braves Release Veterans McCutchen, Gomber, and Gamel
The Atlanta Braves announced the release of three veterans from their Triple-A affiliate on August 3, 2026. The players released include outfielder/designated hitter Andrew McCutchen, left-hander Austin Gomber, and outfielder Ben Gamel, all of whom are now free agents.
McCutchen, 39, previously signed a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers but struggled with a .192 batting average in 83 plate appearances before being released. He performed better with Gwinnett, hitting .333 with three doubles and a home run in 32 plate appearances. Gomber, 32, has not pitched in the majors this season, marking the first time since 2019 without any big league action. He had a 4.81 ERA in Gwinnett after a challenging stint with the Rangers' top affiliate. Gamel, who has not played in the majors since 2024, has struggled in Triple-A this season, posting a .210 batting average and a high strikeout rate.
All three players have significant big league experience and could find new opportunities with other teams looking to enhance their minor league depth.
