Brendan Allen Overcomes Staph Infection to Win at UFC Vegas 122
Brendan Allen achieved a notable victory against Christian Leroy Duncan at UFC Vegas 122, despite contending with a staph infection. His teammate Belal Muhammad disclosed that Allen had been suffering from the infection since Tuesday of fight week and was on antibiotics during the fight.
A video shared by Muhammad showed Allen arriving at a hospital's emergency check-in, along with images of his inflamed skin. Despite these challenges, Allen managed to secure a submission win in the fifth round, demonstrating resilience throughout the match.
In addition to Allen's fight, referee Marc Goddard addressed an eye-poke incident involving Duncan, which resulted in a point deduction. Goddard emphasized the importance of communication regarding rules before fights. Following his victory, Allen expressed interest in a future match against Dricus Du Plessis, aiming for a title shot.
