Brett Lauderdale Addresses Controversy Over Drake Wuertz's GCW Appearance
GCW owner Brett Lauderdale has addressed the backlash following the appearance of Drake Wuertz, formerly known as Drake Younger, at the recent GCW Homecoming event. Lauderdale stated that he believes everyone deserves a second chance and mentioned that he owed Wuertz a favor.
In a social media post, Lauderdale acknowledged Wuertz's past controversial views, which he described as offensive and potentially dangerous. He shared a personal story about his own struggles with addiction, revealing that Wuertz was instrumental in his recovery journey by introducing him to Narcotics Anonymous in 2012.
Wuertz, who previously served as a senior referee in NXT, has faced criticism for his statements regarding human trafficking and mask mandates during the pandemic. After being released from WWE in 2021, he has competed in various wrestling promotions, including Juggalo Championship Wrestling and Combat Zone Wrestling. At GCW Homecoming, he lost to Otis Cogar and later issued a public apology for his past remarks.
