Brewers Manager Defends Team's Efforts in Tarik Skubal Trade Pursuit

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy asserts that the team actively pursued pitcher Tarik Skubal before his trade to the Dodgers, countering claims of inaction.

The Milwaukee Brewers were among several teams interested in acquiring pitcher Tarik Skubal before he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Manager Pat Murphy stated that any suggestion the Brewers did not make an effort is incorrect.

The Dodgers secured Skubal by trading outfield prospect Zyhir Hope and right-handed pitchers River Ryan and Brady Smith to the Detroit Tigers. Reports indicated that the Brewers, along with teams like the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees, were in the running for the left-hander.

Despite being a small-market team with a payroll of approximately $136.6 million, the Brewers were prepared to take on the remaining $9.6 million of Skubal's contract. However, they opted not to trade any of their top 20 prospects during the deadline, instead making other acquisitions, including pitchers Dustin May and JoJo Romero from the St. Louis Cardinals.
