Brewers Offered Luis Peña in Trade Talks for Tarik Skubal

The Milwaukee Brewers were considered the leading contenders for pitcher Tarik Skubal when the Detroit Tigers were exploring trade options. Milwaukee, boasting the best record in Major League Baseball, was prepared to take on Skubal's remaining $32 million salary.

Skubal has since been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for three prospects, including outfielder Zyhir Hope and two right-handed pitchers, River Ryan and Brady Smith. Reports indicate that the Brewers' offer included a package led by 19-year-old shortstop Luis Peña, along with two other position players, at least one of whom was regarded as a Top 100 prospect.

While the Brewers were not willing to part with their top minor league talent, shortstop Jesús Made, they had recently signed shortstop Cooper Pratt and outfielder Luis Lara to extensions. Peña, who has faced some injury setbacks this season, has performed well in High-A, hitting .297 with two home runs and 20 stolen bases. Ultimately, the Tigers opted for the Dodgers' offer, which featured a major league-ready starter in Ryan.
