Brian Gutekunst Denies Trade Rumors Involving Josh Sweat
During the offseason, rumors circulated regarding a potential trade of linebacker Josh Sweat from the Arizona Cardinals to the Green Bay Packers. However, Brian Gutekunst, the Packers' general manager, clarified on Tuesday that no such discussions took place.
Gutekunst stated that no one from the Packers organization had engaged in any conversations about Sweat with the Cardinals, labeling the rumors as unfounded. The speculation arose partly due to Sweat's connection with Jonathan Gannon, who is now the head coach of the Cardinals and previously served as the Eagles' offensive coordinator.
While there were reports of the Cardinals receiving inquiries about Sweat, any potential interest from the Packers would have been easy to explore, given the relationship between the coaching staff of both teams. Sweat is currently in the second year of a four-year, $76 million contract with the Cardinals and recorded 12.0 sacks in 17 starts last season.
