Brian McDermott Aims to Continue as England Head Coach for 2030 Rugby League World Cup

Brian McDermott has expressed his intention to continue as England's head coach for the 2030 Rugby League World Cup. He was appointed on a short-term basis in April to lead the team during the upcoming tournament in Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea.

Although focused on the immediate challenge of the World Cup, McDermott indicated his interest in a longer commitment if the current tournament goes well. He mentioned the importance of having a structured four-year preparation period leading up to the next World Cup.

Currently serving as an assistant coach at the Gold Coast Titans, McDermott has confirmed Sean O'Loughlin and Paul Wellens as his assistant coaches for the World Cup. He acknowledged the challenges of limited preparation time but believes the team is in good shape ahead of their opening match against Tonga on October 17.
