Brian Smith, Former Rugby Star and Coach, Passes Away at 59

Brian Smith, a former rugby union and league player, has died at the age of 59 after a battle with cancer. He played six Tests for Australia and nine for Ireland, and was known for his contributions to rugby at various levels.

Smith's career included stints in the NRL with Balmain and Eastern Suburbs, and he later transitioned into coaching, including roles in Japan and England. He was most recently the Head of Sport at Scots College in Sydney, where he influenced many young athletes.

Tributes have been led by Wallabies prop Angus Bell, who remembered Smith as a great coach and mentor. The principal of Scots College expressed condolences to Smith's family, highlighting the impact he had on the school community.
