Brielle Saracini Commemorates 9/11 by Throwing First Pitch at Yankees-Mets Game
On the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Brielle Saracini, who lost her father Victor Saracini, the pilot of United flight 175, threw the ceremonial first pitch at the Yankees-Mets game in New York. This emotional moment took place with former Yankees captain Derek Jeter present on the mound.
Saracini, who was only 10 years old when she lost her father, reflected on her past experiences with Jeter, recalling how he made her feel comfortable during a difficult time. The ceremony included her husband, Sean McGuire, who also lost his father in the attacks, as they both threw to players Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger.
The event featured highlights from the Yankees' 2001 postseason and a performance of the national anthem by tenor James Valenti. In the lead-up to the ceremony, Yankees players visited fire stations in Manhattan and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.
