Brigid Kosgei Wins Women's Race at Great North Run as Eilish McColgan Withdraws
Brigid Kosgei from Kenya won the women's race at the Great North Run after Eilish McColgan of Great Britain withdrew early due to injury. McColgan, who was returning to competition after a broken toe, suffered a foot injury during the half-marathon and had to leave the race.
Kosgei finished with a time of one hour, six minutes and 15 seconds, dominating the race despite not breaking her own course record of 1:04:28 set in 2019. She crossed the finish line over two minutes ahead of last year's winner, Sheila Chepkirui, who took second place.
The first British athlete to finish was Amy-Eloise Neale, who placed fifth overall. McColgan had previously finished third in the last year's event but had to withdraw due to her injury. In the men's race, American Zouhair Talbi won with a time of 59:47, narrowly missing his personal best.
