This season, McCluggage has been limited to just 13 games due to a persistent calf issue. Brisbane is close to securing a top-six finish, needing only one win in their last two matches to avoid the Wildcard Round, which would allow McCluggage additional time to recover.

Fagan noted that the team is prioritizing McCluggage's health and will not rush his return. The Lions are set to face Gold Coast at the Gabba and then Collingwood at the MCG before entering the finals. Fagan also celebrated becoming the most capped coach in Brisbane's history, surpassing Leigh Matthews, and expressed gratitude for the club's support throughout his tenure.
