Brisbane Lions Narrow Coaching Candidates to Four
The Brisbane Lions have narrowed their search for a new senior coach to four candidates: Cameron Bruce, Nathan Buckley, Adam Simpson, and Hayden Skipworth. This follows the retirement of Chris Fagan, who stepped down after leading the team to a Grand Final victory in September.
Bruce is considered the frontrunner due to his long-standing association with the Lions as an assistant coach. Fagan has publicly supported Bruce as a suitable successor, citing his extensive experience in premierships. Buckley, a former Collingwood coach, has been actively seeking a senior coaching role after his media stint, while Simpson, who previously coached West Coast, has expressed interest in returning to a head coaching position. Skipworth, currently an assistant at Collingwood, is also seen as a potential future senior coach.
The selection panel for the new coach includes AFL legend Leigh Matthews, along with Lions executives and staff. Formal presentations from the candidates are set to commence soon.
