British and Irish Lions Women to Face France in Historic Cardiff Match
The British and Irish Lions women's team is set to make history by playing their inaugural match against France at Cardiff's Principality Stadium on August 27, 2026. This event will precede their 2027 tour to New Zealand.
The match against the French team, currently ranked fourth in the world, will kick off at 19:30 BST. Following this fixture, the Lions will compete against a Black Ferns XV in Whangarei before embarking on a three-Test series against New Zealand starting on September 11.
Head coach Jo Yapp expressed the significance of this moment for the team, highlighting the special nature of playing on home soil. The Lions women's committee chair, Carol Isherwood, emphasized the opportunity to promote women's rugby and inspire future generations. The match is expected to draw a large crowd, building on the record attendance of 21,186 at a previous women's game in Cardiff.
