British Cyclist Finlay Tarling Dies at 19 During Volta a Portugal

Finlay Tarling, a 19-year-old cyclist from Britain, died after a serious accident during the eighth stage of the Volta a Portugal.

The incident occurred while Tarling was competing for the NSN Development Team on a 166.8km route from Melgaco to Fafe. He was known for racing on both track and road and was the younger brother of professional cyclist Josh Tarling.

The NSN Development Team expressed their heartbreak over Tarling's passing, highlighting his role as a beloved team member and friend. The race organizers and the Portuguese Cycling Federation also conveyed their condolences, announcing that the race would be halted and the podium ceremony canceled in honor of Tarling. Portuguese president Antonio Jose Seguro remarked that Tarling's death has cast a shadow of mourning over the cycling community and the nation.
