Brittney Griner has filed for divorce from her wife Cherelle, citing an irretrievably broken marriage, according to court records.
<p>Brittney Griner, a center for the Connecticut Sun, has initiated divorce proceedings against her wife Cherelle in Fulton County, as indicated by court records from Thursday.</p><p>Griner, 35, described the marriage as irretrievably broken and noted July 24 as the date of separation. The couple married in June 2019 after meeting at Baylor University, where Griner played a key role in winning a national championship in 2012.</p><p>Cherelle, a lawyer, was vocal in advocating for Griner's release after her detention by Russian authorities in 2022 for possession of hash oil. The couple has a two-year-old son named Bash, born in July 2024.</p>
