Brock Purdy Poised to Set NFL Career Passer Rating Record
Brock Purdy is set to become the NFL's all-time leader in career passer rating once he reaches the required number of pass attempts. Currently, he holds a passer rating of 105.4, surpassing the existing record of 102.7 held by Lamar Jackson.
To qualify for the record, a quarterback must have at least 1,500 career passing attempts. Purdy is close, with 1,495 attempts, and will secure the record with just one more pass during the upcoming game against the Commanders. Even if he were to throw five interceptions at the start of the game, he would still maintain the record due to his significant lead over Jackson.
Passer rating, established by the NFL in 1973, has its limitations as a metric for evaluating quarterbacks. It tends to overemphasize completion percentage and does not account for various critical aspects of quarterback performance. Nonetheless, it positions Purdy as the top passer in NFL history based on this statistic.
