Broncos Face Potential Tampering Case Involving Drew Brees
Reports indicate that the Denver Broncos engaged in discussions with quarterback Drew Brees regarding a possible return for the AFC Championship, despite his status on the Saints' reserve-retired list making this move unfeasible.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, former Broncos coaches Joe Lombardi and Pete Carmichael reached out to Brees about the possibility of him unretiring. Brees confirmed this contact but Broncos coach Sean Payton provided a different account, suggesting that Brees initiated the conversation.
Payton emphasized that he was unaware of the discussions until they were brought up later, downplaying the significance of the situation. However, the NFL could investigate the matter for potential tampering, as the Broncos may have inadvertently contacted a player still under contract with another team.
