Broncos Safety Brandon Jones Fills In as Kicker at Training Camp

During a recent training camp session, Brandon Jones, a safety for the Denver Broncos, stepped in as a kicker, successfully completing 3 out of 4 field goal attempts. This opportunity arose as the team's regular kicker, Wil Lutz, was attending the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony for former teammate Drew Brees.

Jones, who has no formal kicking experience from high school or college, mentioned that his role as a backup kicker began as a lighthearted conversation with special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi. He recalled jokingly offering to kick in an emergency, which led to him being tested during practice last year. His longest successful kick during the recent session was from 41 yards, and he noted having previously made a 50-yard field goal while training with Lutz.

Fans at the training camp cheered for Jones as he demonstrated his kicking abilities. While he enjoyed the attention, he expressed uncertainty about handling the pressure of a game-winning kick.
