Browns Coach Todd Monken Names Deshaun Watson Starting QB for Week 1
Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken announced on Monday that veteran quarterback Deshaun Watson will start in Week 1, surpassing second-year player Shedeur Sanders.
Monken also stated that neither Watson nor Sanders will participate in the upcoming preseason finale against the New England Patriots. Instead, third-round draft pick Dillon Gabriel and sixth-round pick Taylen Green will take the field. Monken expressed a desire to see more from Gabriel, who had limited opportunities in the previous game against the Buffalo Bills.
Despite speculation about Sanders' future with the team, Monken indicated that he values Sanders' potential and sees room for growth. He emphasized that every player develops at their own pace and expressed optimism about Sanders' progress as a backup quarterback.
