Browns Evaluate Quarterback Options After Preseason Performances
The Cleveland Browns have determined that only Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders will compete for the starting quarterback position, while Dillon Gabriel and Taylen Green vie for the No. 3 spot. However, during the preseason, Gabriel and Green demonstrated stronger performances than Watson and Sanders.
In the preseason finale, Gabriel completed 12 of 15 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns, while Green completed five of seven passes for 27 yards and showcased his athleticism with eight carries for 66 yards. Despite their impressive play, Watson has been named the starter, and Sanders will serve as the backup.
Head coach Todd Monken acknowledged the strong performances of Gabriel and Green but expressed doubts about keeping four quarterbacks on the 53-player roster. The team faces a decision on whether to retain Gabriel or Green, as cutting Watson is not feasible due to the significant investment already made in him.
