Browns Face Tight End Depth Issues Ahead of NFL Season
The Cleveland Browns are encountering significant challenges at the tight end position as they prepare for the 2026 NFL season, according to head coach Todd Monken.
Following one preseason game and a joint practice, the team is focused on resolving issues beyond the competition for starting quarterback between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders. The departure of David Njoku to the Los Angeles Chargers has left a gap behind Harold Fannin Jr., who had a strong rookie season with over 700 receiving yards.
With injuries and absences affecting the roster, rookie tight end Joe Royer has missed training camp for personal reasons, and free agent Jack Stoll has been placed on injured reserve. Monken expressed concern over the tight end depth, noting the need for multiple players to fill the role. The team is looking to Blake Whiteheart and rookie Carsen Ryan for support, and may consider signing additional tight ends as the season approaches.
