Browns' Future with Deshaun Watson Uncertain Amid Performance Questions
The Cleveland Browns are reportedly considering keeping quarterback Deshaun Watson as their starter through 2027, contingent on his continued success in guiding the team to victories. NFL insider Adam Schefter indicated that the organization has not yet made a definitive decision regarding Watson's future beyond the current season.
Watson has led the Browns to five winning drives in the fourth quarters of their first seven games, but his overall performance has raised concerns. As of Week 7, he ranked 27th in the NFL with a 43.9 adjusted QBR and was 19th with a 90.6 passer rating. Additionally, he has been sacked 25 times, the highest in the league this season.
Despite these challenges, Schefter noted that both Watson and the Browns have a positive working relationship. However, he suggested that the team might consider using their two first-round draft picks in 2027 to pursue a top quarterback prospect. Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders is expected to remain the backup quarterback as the Browns prepare to face the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday.
