Browns Place DE Alex Wright on Injured Reserve Due to Achilles Tear
The Cleveland Browns have announced that defensive end Alex Wright will be placed on injured reserve following a season-ending rupture of his Achilles tendon. This decision comes after Wright left practice on a cart during a joint session with the Buffalo Bills due to a lower-leg injury.
Wright, who was signed to a three-year, $33 million extension last November, has made 51 regular-season appearances and started 15 games since being drafted in the third round in 2022. He was expected to start alongside Jared Verse this season.
In response to Wright's injury, the Browns have signed veteran defensive end Derek Barnett to take his place on the roster. Barnett previously played for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2017 to 2023 before being released and later claimed by the Texans.
