Browns Place DE Alex Wright on IR, Sign DE Derek Barnett
The Cleveland Browns have announced that defensive end Alex Wright will be placed on season-ending injured reserve following a ruptured Achilles sustained during practice. The injury occurred during a one-on-one drill, and Wright was subsequently carted off the field.
In response to this setback, the Browns have signed defensive end Derek Barnett to a one-year contract. Barnett, a former first-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, has had a challenging career, including a torn ACL that sidelined him for the entire 2022 season. He was waived by the Eagles after the trade deadline and had a brief stint with the Houston Texans, where he played all 17 games in 2025, recording 21 tackles and five sacks.
