Browns Place Dillon Gabriel on IR, Retain Three Quarterbacks

The Cleveland Browns have made roster adjustments ahead of the regular season by placing backup quarterback Dillon Gabriel on injured reserve due to a back injury. This decision was made during the roster cutdown deadline on Sunday.

Deshaun Watson, who has been named the starter by head coach Todd Monken, is joined on the 53-man roster by backup Shedeur Sanders and rookie Taylen Green. Gabriel, who sustained his injury during a preseason game against the New England Patriots, is eligible to return from IR but will miss at least the first four games of the season.

Gabriel had a strong performance in the preseason, completing 12 of 15 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns before his injury. He was drafted in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Meanwhile, Green, a sixth-round pick, and Sanders, a fifth-round pick, are also part of the quarterback lineup as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
