Browns Rookie Dae’Quan Wright Enters Transfer Portal Amid NCAA Controversy
Todd Monken, the head coach of the Cleveland Browns, expressed surprise regarding rookie tight end Dae’Quan Wright's recent decision to enter the transfer portal. Wright, who joined the Browns after playing at Virginia Tech and Ole Miss, became the first active NFL player to take this step.
Wright's entry into the portal occurred after a Louisiana court issued a temporary restraining order against the NCAA, allowing athletes to seek additional college eligibility. Monken noted that Wright had not been receiving practice reps due to a medical issue, despite being dressed for a preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.
Wright had been listed fifth on the Browns' depth chart at tight end, a position that has faced challenges due to injuries among other players. In light of Wright's absence, the Browns signed Drew Biber to their roster. Wright's college career included 113 receptions for 1,603 yards and nine touchdowns, concluding with Ole Miss's participation in the College Football Playoff semifinal.
