Browns Test Quarterbacks in Preseason Games

The Cleveland Browns are utilizing their initial two preseason games to assess their quarterbacks. Deshaun Watson will start on Saturday against the Bears, marking his return to game action after nearly two years due to an Achilles injury.

Watson's last appearance was in October 2024, after which he underwent surgery for a second Achilles tear. His absence created a gap at quarterback, leading to Shedeur Sanders starting seven games last season following the trade of Joe Flacco and an injury to Dillon Gabriel. Sanders concluded his rookie season with 1,400 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and ten interceptions.

Head coach Todd Monken, who took over this year, has not yet named a starting quarterback. Watson received all first-team reps in practice on a day when Sanders was expected to lead. Sanders expressed his frustration over media criticism directed at Monken regarding the quarterback competition, emphasizing the need for team unity. The competition between Watson and Sanders will soon be tested on the field.
