The Manchester United captain earned the accolade during the PFA's annual awards ceremony, following an impressive season where he recorded a remarkable 21 assists and nine goals, helping United secure a third-place finish in the Premier League. This marks the first time a United player has won the award since Wayne Rooney in 2010.

Ronaldo previously won the award in consecutive seasons, 2006-07 and 2007-08, making him one of the few players to achieve this feat. With Fernandes' recent win, Portugal now has two representatives on the honor roll, which has been awarded since the 1973-74 season and is determined by votes from fellow professionals in English football.
