Buccaneers General Manager Confirms No Plans to Trade Vita Vea

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have no intention of trading defensive tackle Vita Vea, according to general manager Jason Licht. This announcement comes after Vea requested a trade following stalled contract extension discussions.

Vea, a two-time Pro Bowler, is in the final year of a four-year, $71 million contract signed in 2022. Licht emphasized the team's commitment to Vea, noting ongoing engagement with his agent. Although Vea attended the recent mandatory minicamp, he did not participate due to a minor back injury.

Vea has been with the Buccaneers since being drafted in the first round in 2018, playing 112 regular-season games and eight playoff games. The team has made several defensive upgrades this offseason, and Vea is expected to play a key role in the revamped unit. Additionally, quarterback Baker Mayfield expressed dissatisfaction with his contract situation, feeling undervalued during extension talks.
