Buccaneers Select Jalon Daniels as Backup Quarterback

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have chosen undrafted rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels to serve as their backup to Baker Mayfield, a decision made during the NFL cutdown day. This move comes after the team released veteran Jake Browning, who had signed with the Buccaneers earlier this offseason.

Daniels, 23, secured the No. 2 quarterback position after a strong performance in training camp and preseason games. He completed 27 of 44 passes for 239 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions, while also rushing for 37 yards and a touchdown. His notable performances included leading comebacks against the Jets and Chiefs.

This decision highlights the Buccaneers' confidence in Daniels, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding Mayfield's future with the team, as he is in the final year of a three-year contract.
