Buccaneers Sign Safety Xavier Williams
The Buccaneers have officially signed safety Xavier Williams, as announced by the team on Sunday.
Williams, who joined the Buccaneers as a college free agent, showcased his skills during the team's rookie minicamp in May. He completed his college career at the University of Cincinnati, where he played his final season in 2025, recording 39 tackles, one forced fumble, and one pass defensed over 12 games.
Previously, Williams played at Middle Tennessee State, the University of Central Florida, and Charlotte. In a related move, the Buccaneers waived cornerback Chase Lucas due to a failed physical. Lucas, a seventh-round pick by the Lions in 2022, played 18 games over two seasons with Detroit and later joined the 49ers before making the active roster in 2025.
