Buss Family Sells Remaining Stake in Los Angeles Lakers
The Buss family has finalized the sale of its remaining 17.8% stake in the Los Angeles Lakers to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger, valuing the transaction at $12.5 million. This decision was made as part of a broader transition, with the family expressing their continued support for the team and its fans while indicating it was time to move on.
Kushner and Iger recently acquired control of the Lakers from Mark Walter, who had purchased the team in 2025. The Buss family has been involved with the Lakers since Dr. Jerry Buss became the owner in 1979, during which time the team secured 11 NBA championships.
Jeanie Buss, who has served as the team's governor since her father's passing in 2013, was initially allowed to retain her position after the majority sale to Walter. However, with the family's exit from ownership, the governance of the team will likely shift to either Iger or Kushner, as the Buss family no longer holds the necessary 15% ownership to maintain that role.
