Butch Huskey, a former Major League Baseball outfielder who played primarily for the New York Mets, has died at the age of 54. The Mets announced his passing on social media, revealing that he succumbed to a blood clot in his lung in his hometown of Lawton, Oklahoma.

Huskey was selected by the Mets in the seventh round of the 1989 draft and made a significant impact in the minor leagues, earning multiple MVP awards. He debuted in the majors in September 1993 and had a standout season in 1997, hitting .287 with 24 home runs. He was known for wearing Jackie Robinson's number 42 as a tribute, a decision that deeply resonated with him due to his diverse heritage.
