BYU Secures Historic Matchup with Notre Dame in Provo
In Provo, Utah, BYU has arranged a notable football game against Notre Dame, thanks to a scheduling breakthrough initiated by athletic director Brian Santiago. Last October, Santiago sought nonconference games after potential conflicts with California, leading to a conversation about the Fighting Irish, who had an opening in their schedule.
After reaching out to Notre Dame's athletic director, Pete Bevacqua, both teams navigated their scheduling challenges. Although both were excluded from the College Football Playoff, they aimed to meet in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, which Notre Dame later withdrew from. This led to renewed discussions, and BYU was eager to finalize a matchup.
The upcoming game marks a significant moment for BYU, which has a storied history in college football. Hosting No. 2 Notre Dame at LaVell Edwards Stadium will be the highest-ranked opponent to visit since 2004. A victory could propel BYU into playoff contention, while Notre Dame seeks to reestablish its position among the national elite.
