Cade Cavalli Nearly Achieves No-Hitter in Nationals' Victory Over Cubs

Cade Cavalli nearly achieved a no-hitter on Thursday, leading the Washington Nationals to a 7-0 victory against the Chicago Cubs, thus preventing a three-game sweep.

Cavalli, who is set to turn 28, retired the first 15 batters he faced before allowing a walk to Dansby Swanson in the sixth inning. Swanson was quickly eliminated on a double play. The right-hander struck out 10 batters and set personal bests with eight innings pitched and 103 pitches thrown.

The Nationals scored their first run in the fourth inning with an RBI double from Dylan Crews. In the fifth inning, they extended their lead with a three-run homer from Abimelec Ortiz, who has hit four home runs in just 11 games this season. Kevin Gausman, pitching for the Cubs, allowed six runs in 4 2/3 innings.
