Cade Horton to Miss Rest of 2026 Season Due to Injury

The Chicago Cubs have confirmed that pitcher Cade Horton will be sidelined for the rest of the 2026 season due to an injury sustained on April 3. The announcement was made during the Cubs' weekend series against the New York Yankees.

Horton underwent a right ulnar collateral ligament revision repair with an internal brace on April 16, and doctors estimate a recovery period of approximately 15 to 16 months. He had made only two appearances this season before the injury halted his progress. Recently, Horton left his rehabilitation base in Arizona to join the team in Chicago on July 31 as he continues his recovery.

Drafted seventh overall in 2022 from the University of Oklahoma, Horton had an impressive rookie season with an 11-4 record and a 2.67 earned-run average over 23 games. His absence will impact the Cubs' pitching depth, prompting the front office to explore other options within the roster and minor leagues. The organization is focused on ensuring Horton returns at full strength, with hopes he can resume his role as a key pitcher in the 2027 season.
