Cade Marlowe to Activate Upward Mobility Clause in Contract

Cade Marlowe, an outfielder for the Angels, intends to activate the upward mobility clause in his minor league contract on Monday, as reported by Ari Alexander of 7News Boston.

Once the clause is triggered, the Angels must offer Marlowe to the other 29 teams in the league. If another team adds him to its 40-man roster, the Angels will need to either promote him or let him go. Marlowe, who has one option remaining, can be sent to the minors if acquired.

Originally drafted in the 20th round in 2019, Marlowe has emerged as a notable prospect. He made his major league debut with the Mariners in 2023, posting a .239 batting average with three home runs. After being designated for assignment by the Mariners, he signed with the Angels following a stint with the Athletics. This season, he has performed well in Triple-A, achieving a .315 batting average with nine home runs and 27 stolen bases.
