Cadillac's F1 Engine Factory Set to Open on December 18
Cadillac has announced that its Formula 1 engine factory in Charlotte, North Carolina, will open on December 18. This facility is part of General Motors' plan to become a power unit supplier approved by the FIA for the 2029 season.
General Motors president Mark Reuss confirmed the opening during a conference in New York, highlighting the progress of the factory's construction. The company has a limited timeframe to design its power unit, as the FIA plans to transition back to V8 engines by 2031, which may affect the number of seasons GM's powertrain can compete.
Currently, Cadillac is utilizing Ferrari power units in its inaugural season, which has faced challenges, including not scoring any points in 2026. Reuss acknowledged the difficulties but emphasized the importance of building the team and powertrain effectively, with experienced drivers like Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas contributing to the process.
