Cain Velasquez Discusses Life After Prison Release
Cain Velasquez, the former UFC heavyweight champion, has publicly addressed his transition to life following his release from custody earlier this year after serving 11 months.
His incarceration stemmed from a 2022 incident in San Jose, California, where he pursued and fired at a vehicle carrying Harry Goularte, whom he accused of molesting a young relative. Goularte was unharmed, and Velasquez was initially sentenced to five years but was released in February.
Since his release, Velasquez has returned to the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, where he has taken on a coaching role. He emphasizes the importance of teaching and personal growth, incorporating breathing exercises into training to help fighters manage trauma. Although he has limited public appearances since February, he expresses a desire for his experiences to serve as a lesson for others.
