This transition follows hints from head coach Matt Campbell, who suggested the move during a media session weeks prior. Bacon's versatility has been emphasized, with Campbell noting the importance of utilizing players in various roles to enhance team performance.

Linebacker coach Tyson Veidt supported this strategy, highlighting Bacon's adaptability and previous experience at the position from his time at Iowa State.
