Caleb Durbin Undergoes Foot Surgery
The Boston Red Sox announced that Caleb Durbin has undergone surgery on the fifth metatarsal of his right foot. This marks the second surgical procedure for the third baseman this postseason, following a minor operation on his left pinky finger a few weeks prior.
While the team did not provide a recovery timeline, there are no indications that either surgery will affect his readiness for Spring Training. Durbin played through various injuries towards the end of the season, but he showed improvement in his performance during the second half of the year. He concluded the season with a batting line of .248/.332/.378 and 13 home runs.
Assuming a full recovery, Durbin is expected to be the starting third baseman as he enters his second season with the Red Sox. He has the ability to shift to second base if the team acquires a strong player for third. Manager Chad Tracy indicated that the plan is to have Durbin at third base while giving Curtis Mead the opportunity to compete for the second base position.
