Caleb Durbin Undergoes Surgery on Right Foot
The Boston Red Sox have confirmed that Caleb Durbin underwent surgery on the fifth metatarsal of his right foot. This marks the second surgical procedure for the third baseman during the postseason, following a minor operation on his left pinky finger earlier this month.
While the team has not provided a recovery timeline, there are no indications that either surgery will hinder Durbin's readiness for Spring Training. Throughout the latter part of the season, he played through various injuries but improved significantly after a challenging start. Durbin's performance included a batting line of .248/.332/.378 with 13 home runs for the year.
Looking ahead, if fully recovered, Durbin is expected to be the starting third baseman for the Red Sox. He has the ability to shift to second base if the team acquires a strong player for third, although the free agent market for that position is currently limited. Manager Chad Tracy has indicated that the plan is to have Durbin at third base while giving Curtis Mead the opportunity to compete for the second base role.
