Caleb Williams and Key Starters to Sit Out Bears' Preseason Opener
Bears quarterback Caleb Williams will not take the field in the team's preseason opener against the Browns on Saturday. Head coach Ben Johnson has suggested that Williams may not play at all during August.
During a press conference, Johnson confirmed that several starters, including Williams, will be absent from the matchup. Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent is set to start and will play for about half of the game. Johnson expressed optimism about evaluating the remaining players who will participate.
Johnson mentioned that decisions regarding playing time for the rest of the preseason are still pending. He does not feel it is necessary for Williams to play in the preseason, as he observes the quarterback's performance daily in practice. The game against the Browns is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday.
